Italian and Swiss clubs shine in European competitions

March saw the European Silver Cup in Le Locle (Switzerland) and the European Winners Cup in Rovello (Italy). The matches were tight and hotly contested, but in the end, once again, Italy and Switzerland showed that they are (still) the best teams in Europe.

 

The European Winners Cup

The European Winners Cup was held in Rovello from 28 to 30 March, bringing together the best European clubs.

On Friday and Saturday, the qualifying matches took place, defining the four teams that would qualify for the semi-finals. After a well-controlled group stage and some hard-fought matches, four teams qualified for the semi-finals: Rovello Sgavisc, Saronno Castor and Ferrara Monkeys from Italy and Geneva Dragons from Switzerland.

In the semi-final, Ferrara beat Geneva by 6 points, and Rovello beat Saronno by 3 points.

In the final for 3rd place, Geneva Dragons came out on top against Italian side Saronno Castor (57-52).

In a very fast-paced final, Ferrara came out on top in a magnificent match against the home team from Rovello, taking their revenge on the previous edition.

The European Silver Cup

The European Silver Cup was held in Le Locle from 14 to 16 March. Teams from five different countries came with the aim of winning the trophy.

In the end, it was the Swiss teams that shone the brightest: Lausanne Olympic, La Chaux-de-Fonds Beehives and Delémont Blizzard finished in the top 3 places.
