HOW TO RECYCLE BIODEGRADABLE MATERIAL?
During the Tchoukball Geneva Indoors, we set up a new project: Cap vers le zéro déchet. At the heart of this strategy is the responsible sorting of waste generated by the event. The sorting is carried out firstly by the players and the public, via adapted sorting centers. Then, a second sorting is carried out by a specific team belonging to the TGI staff.
One of the materials to be recycled is biodegradable material. Often overlooked and forgotten by consumers, recycling organic matter can be highly beneficial.
Recycling biodegradable matter is an excellent way to reduce waste and nourish the soil. Here are a few methods:
1 Home composting
- Compost: Mix green waste (fruit and vegetable peelings, coffee grounds, cut herbs) with brown waste (dead leaves, unprinted cardboard, branches).
- Vermicomposting: Using worms to transform organic waste into rich compost. Ideal for small spaces such as apartments.
2 Reuse in cooking and gardening
- Reusing some peelings to make broths or soups is a great way to work the product over completely.
- For fruit that’s a little too ripe, jams, compotes or syrups are options for avoiding waste.
- Leftover vegetables (leeks, green onions, celery, lettuce, etc.) can be re-grown in a glass of water before being replanted in pots or in the garden.
Here are various solutions to avoid waste, encourage waste sorting and reduce incinerable waste. These initiatives will be on display at Tchoukball Geneva Indoors 2025.
