Tchoukball Geneva Indoors: 12-22.12.2024

Towards an even more ambitious future for the Tchoukball Geneva Indoors and the Nations Cup !

At the start of the new year, the Tchoukball Geneva Indoors team is taking advantage of the period following the December edition to take stock and reflect on the future. The ambition is clear: to evolve the event to strengthen its impact on the development of world tchoukball, particularly through the Nations Cup, which is attracting more and more national teams.

Among the avenues being explored, the organisation is considering changing the format of the matches. Rather than playing in three 15-minute periods, it is considering a points-based format (for example: three winning sets of 21 points), already used in other competitions. This system could make the matches more intense and more attractive to the public.

Given the growth in the number of participating teams, the Nations Cup formula will have to be adapted. It will be necessary to decide on the size of the groups and the criteria for allocating the teams (ranking, past results, etc.), while finding a fair way of integrating the new nations.

The option being considered is the creation of a Group A (elite level) and a Group B (development level), in order to guarantee balanced matches. The best teams in 2025 could move up to Group A in 2026. If this system is adopted, it will also be necessary to define a promotion/relegation mechanism to enable teams in Group B to move up to Group A.

The organisers are also considering the general structure of the competition. A format with quarter-finals, rather than semi-finals straight away, could make the tournament more dynamic. In addition, to lighten the load on Fridays, it would be desirable to start the matches on Thursday afternoon.

To enrich this reflection, we invite all those involved in tchoukball to share their ideas, suggestions and experiences. Contributions can be sent to Erika Mesmer until 31 May, so that together we can build a 2025 edition that is even more exciting and representative of our sport’s potential.
